A youth arts institute building the next generation of storytellers, performers, artists, and creators — in theatre, music, visual arts, and film & media.
Through training, mentorship, and real-world opportunities, Moonless Arts Institute is building an environment where young people can explore theatre, music, visual arts, and film & media in ways that inspire confidence, discipline, and purpose.
As a program of SteelHorn Foundation — a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit — we are committed to expanding access to the arts and creating meaningful pathways for the next generation. Our goal is not simply to teach the arts, but to build a creative environment where young people can dream bigger, create boldly, and see their ideas brought to life.
We believe the arts do more than teach creative skills. They help young people build self-confidence, discipline, collaboration, communication, and vision.
From acting and directing to stage presence and storytelling, our theatre programs help students develop confidence, creativity, and performance skills both on and off the stage.
Our music programs encourage students to explore sound, songwriting, performance, and recording while discovering their own artistic voice.
Through drawing, illustration, comics, photography, and digital art, students are invited to express themselves visually and build creative skills that can last a lifetime.
Students gain exposure to filmmaking, editing, voice-over, storytelling, and production techniques while learning how stories come to life on screen.
A head-to-head short film competition where the next generation takes the lead — both in front of and behind the camera. Every cast member, every crew role, every voice on screen: youth-driven from start to finish.
Independent filmmakers and studios are invited to enter the challenge. Build your own youth-led production team, submit your short, and compete alongside Moonless Media & MAWilliams for festival recognition.
Selected films featured at this celebrated regional festival — an honored showcase for the next generation of storytellers and emerging filmmakers.
Visit Festival →All entries will be judged by the audience at the festival. The crowd decides who takes home the win — making every screening a live celebration of youth storytelling.
Final film must run between 8 and 10 minutes in length, opening titles and end credits included.
Films must be fully filmed, edited, and submitted on or before August 15, 2026 to qualify for festival selection.
Every actor, crew member, and creative role must be filled by youth participants — the only exception being a single lead producer or filmmaker.
All scripts, music, and footage must be original to the production or properly licensed for use.
Your entry fee directly supports the festivals and the youth programs at Moonless Arts Institute — funding equipment, mentorship, scholarships, and the studio buildout. Submitting a film isn't just a competition entry. It's a contribution to the future of youth filmmaking.
